This exhibit honors and commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the study of Dance at Williams College. Students, alumni, and faculty wrote the labels for each object in this display, reflecting the key communities and moments that made Dance possible at Williams. Themes of gratitude, community, and love emerge through their personal narratives, key ingredients that transformed Dance from a small program into a full department.

Capturing major events from the late 1970s and early 1980s, these images lift up the joy and creativity of individuals and groups that form the foundation of what is now the department. It is due to these individuals, and countless others, that the Dance Department continues to be an invaluable part of both academic and personal life. Through lasting friendships, mentorships, and self-hoods, our vibrant dancing community, courses, ensembles and student-led groups continue to thrive.
