The Library of Chinese Humanities (LoCH) is an ongoing series of facing-page translations of important works in the premodern Chinese textual tradition. The series encompasses all periods of premodern Chinese humanities, from antiquity to the early twentieth century. It publishes works of literature, history, thought, religion, theory of the arts, and miscellanies that cut across standard academic fields. Volumes in the series are published both in hard copy by DeGruyter and as pdfs online through an open-access agreement with the publisher.
As members of the editorial board, we review project proposals submitted for consideration and are also involved in any other decision-making related to the series. We have both served as editors for volumes in the series, working closely with translators to finalize their translations and proofread the texts. Christopher is also one of two series editors, in which role he serves as an initial contact point with the production team at DeGruyter.
Open access has been central to the series’ mission from the outset, to ensure that the translations are available to a much wider range of readers than could purchase the volumes in hard copy. Students and faculty can use selected parts of each volume without having to purchase the full book. Readers everywhere can take these poems, in the original and translation, everywhere they go.
