Exhibit : German-language Comics

German-language comics purchased by students in GERM 202 are now in display in the New Acquisitions area of Sawyer Library.

The idea for this display originated in the Spring of 2023 during a library instruction sessions when students in GERM 202 learned to locate German-language comics in the library catalogue, to understand the classification they fall under, and to think of how library collections are built.

Upon this session, the students became interested in expanding the library’s collection to increase opportunities for student learning German to interact with comics either at the beginner, intermediate or advanced language level. As a class project, students purchased a large number of German-language comics, graphic novels, and mangas by some of the most famous and respected authors from Germany and Austria.  These are now in display in the New Acquisitions area in Sawyer Library, and available for check-out.

This display was organized in conjunction with the campus visit of  German comic author and illustrator Reinhard Kleist, who will give a public talk on Wednesday September 20 at 4:30 PM.
