Get Background Info on a Topic

"I'm taking a class in a subject I've never studied before, and I need some background information on my paper topic.  Where do I go?"

The best place to start when you are unfamiliar with a topic is the reference section.  We have all sorts of scholarly encyclopedias for specific disciplines that can quickly give you a handle on any subject.  Some of our reference sources are also available online.  Unlike Wikipedia, these encyclopedias are written by prominent scholars, so you know the information you find is comprehensive and accurate.
