Finding Books
Start in FRANCIS
FRANCIS, the Williams College Libraries' online catalog contains all the books and other materials that the Libraries purchase.
Search Tips:
- Always use the Advanced Search option. This enables you to combine terms together more efficiently.
- Once you find a relevant book, click on the Full Record tab, then look use the Subject Headings to find additional sources.
- Use the Look Inside button
to see the table of contents, book cover, and summary of books (mostly for materials published after 1990).
What to do if the book you want is already checked out?
If you book you want is already checked-out (there is a due date in the record), your best option is to request it from another library. Click on the NExpress button 
to initiate the request. You will need your Williams barcode (on the back of your ID) to place a request. Books are delivered to the Sawyer Access Services Desk or Schow Services Desk in a few days. See the Borrowing Matrix for more info.
Use Worldcat to expand your searches
WorldCat is the combined catalog of more than 9,000 libraries in the U.S. and around the world. Use the same strategies and subject headings as what you used in FRANCIS. To request materials, click on the
