Access Services - Desk

Number of positions available:   0

Hours:  Whenever Sawyer is open.

Required:  Excellent customer service skills, effective and efficient communication skills, and basic computer literacy.

Duties:  

  • Check library items in and out
  • Prepare returned items for shelving by arranging by call number
  • Retrieve and shelve reserve items
  • Work closely with full time staff to provide library service to users
  

Access Services - Stacks

Number of positions available: 1
Hours:
Weekdays 8 am - 4 pm  - Required: Mon & Wed, 1-2 pm
Required:
high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to lift 25 pounds

Duties: 

  • Arrange and shelve materials
  • Maintain order in the stacks
  • Check study areas for materials that were not properly checked out
  • Retrieve materials
  • Shift collections
  

Administrative Office

Number of positions available:   0
Hours: Weekdays 8 am - 4:30 pm
Required: Computer skills including Excel and Word

Duties:

  • Provide general office support (data entry, updating records, filing)
  • Assist with operation of the Sawyer Cafe
  

Archives & Special Collections

Number of positions available:   0
Hours:   Weekdays 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Required:  Attention to detail; familiarity with Word, Excel, and Photoshop; Ability to lift 25 pounds

Duties: 

  • Retrieve and refile rare books, photographs, and other archival collections
  • Process collections (inventory and organize manuscript and archival material, write collection guides)
  • Assist with research queries (conduct research, collect data)
  • Assist with digitization projects (scan items, create metadata)
  • Research and compose essays on historical topics
  • Assist with conservation of collections
  

Interlibrary Loan

Number of positions available:   0
Hours:   Weekdays 8 am - 4 pm
Required:   

Duties: 

  • Process incoming and outgoing packages
  • Scan from journals and books
  • Retrieve library items from stacks
  • Check out library items in automated systems
  • Other tasks as assigned
  

Research and Reference Services

Number of positions available:   0
Hours:   Monday - Thursday 10 am - 10 pm, Friday 10 am - 5 pm, Saturday 1-5 pm, Sunday 1-5 pm and 7-10 pm
Required:   Working with the public, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to learn quickly and think on one's feet. May require evening and weekend hours.

Duties: 

  • Staff the Research Help Desk
  • Answer questions about library services
  • Teach users how to find information and use the library's online and print resources
  • Perform daily tasks (re-shelving reference materials, maintaining computer areas, distributing mail, etc.)
  • Create exhibits and promotional materials
  

Schow Science Library

Number of positions available:  0 
Hours:   Whenever Schow Library is open
Required:  Must be available evenings and weekends.  Excellent customer service skills, effective and efficient communication skills, and basic computer literacy.

Duties:

  • Provides excellent library customer service at the Schow Services Desk to  Williams College Community and general public.
  • Responsible for all Services Desk activities including assisting in opening and closing the library.
  • Service Desk responsibilities include but are not limited to, checking in and out materials, assisting patrons in locating materials, answering directional questions and referring reference questions to the proper staff person.
  • requires shelving retrieving  books from the stacks, scanning material for faculty and assisting library staff in various projects such as inventory
  

Systems

Hours:   Sunday - Thursday 8 am - 4:30 pm
Required:   

Duties: 

  • Digitize materials
  • Maintain library computers and laptops (re-imaging, updating, troubleshooting)
  • Check journal and book lists against library holdings
  • Perform general office work (spreadsheet and word processing)
