Sawyer Library is named after the 11th President
of Williams College, John Edward Sawyer. Sawyer is the main campus library and houses collections
that support the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The collections also
include most of the library systems' government documents, videocassettes, and
sound recordings.
The Library provides a full range of library services. A Research Help Desk is staffed by professional librarians seven days a week during the academic term. Interlibrary Loan service is available through online forms in ILLiad and patron-initiated borrowing is available through the NExpress and Boston Library Consortium catalogs. Reserve, audiovisual, and circulation services are provided through the Access Services Desk. Complete library and other departmental hours are available online.
Sawyer Library has a collection of nearly 700,000 volumes and seating for approximately 750 individuals. Nearly all of the study carrels and tables are wired for high-speed data connections. A laptop loaner program is available for Williams College students and faculty. In addition, several dozen public computers are available for searching such electronic resources as the online catalog, full-text journals, and indexes and abstract services. Two computer labs are also available for members of the Williams College community.
