Equal Access: the Brave New World of Journal Publishing
Williams College Library participates in several new publishing initiatives that aim to provide wider access to academic journal publications. During this luncheon, we will look at the library's participation in the following projects:
We will also discuss some of the new "Author's Rights" initiatives which are reshaping scholarly publishing. It's a brave new world indeed and there are still more questions than answers but the library is moving forward and we need your feedback and input.

This luncheon will introduce new visual resources available in the libraries with a special focus on image databases and a look at best techniques and practices to integrate images into your classes or presentations.
Search examples will highlight the diversity of images available in our collections, from art and architecture images of course to anthropology photographs, news pictures, editorial cartoons, graphics in magazines and historical ads. For search tips, see the library's Finding Images guide .
Lunch hosted by Linda Reynolds, Visual Resources Center and Christine Ménard, Sawyer Library will host the lunch. Special guest, Caroline Doctor '07, will talk about her HIST 15 project which featured editorial cartoons from 1968 national newspapers

Should libraries collect video games? Why not?

Morgan McGuire, Assistant Professor of Computer Science will review the growing field of academic game studies and describe his experience using video games and other multimedia in his teaching. He will also discuss how libraries are coping with the need to collect video games and provide access to them. Morgan's research interests include: computational videography, video sensor networks, 3D rendering and animation, tools for content creation, computer games and he was at the origin of the library's first Game Night which was held in November in Schow.
