The traditional mission of libraries is to collect, preserve, organize and provide access to information, including scholarly literature in academic journals. However, recent changes in technology have prompted shifts in this mission and raised several questions about creation of content and permanent access. Some have referred to this as the "crisis in scholarly communication". Crisis or not, it is certainly a topic that merits clear thinking and open discussion.
