Designed by architects Bohlin Cywinski Jackson the new Sawyer Library will open its doors in September 2011.
Blending old and new, the library will integrate historic Stetson Hall and a four story new facility. Stetson's refurbished lobby will become the entrance, leading patrons to the main floor of the new library. The new building will be constructed in the stead of the old Stetson additions (scheduled to be razed in the fall of 2008).
In addition to housing humanities and social sciences collections, the new library will also be home to the newly designed Learning Commons, the College Archives, the Chapin Library and the Center for Media Initiatives.
The complex will also include: a 24-hour study space (in the restored Stetson Faculty Lounge), several study rooms, a videoconferencing classroom, faculty offices, a small performance space, a news room and a café.
By collocating previously dispersed collections and services, the new library will create new synergies and creative opportunities for collaboration between all occupants.
