Williams College Libraries follow the Library of Congress Classification Outline in assigning call numbers to our holdings, with the exception of items in the Chapin Library, Government Documents, and Compact Discs.

The letter or letters at the beginning of a Library of Congress call number indicate the general subject area of the work, as shown below.
