Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (PC)

Note: The screens on this page are from Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 7.0 on Windows XP. Your controls may appear differently.

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to Tools | Internet Options from the Command Bar

    The tools button looks like this: step 1
  • Select the Connections tab
  • If you use dial-up, highlight the connection and click Settings
    If you use a LAN (such as cable modem or DSL), click LAN settings

  • In the address box, type http://proxy.williams.edu
  • In the port box, type 3128

  • Click OK to close all boxes
  • A box will pop up asking you to log in - use your Williams username and password

Please Note: The proxy server will not work correctly in Internet Explorer if you are using AOL. Solution: Download Netscape or FireFox and configure it to use the proxy server.
