Research Toolkit

Below are some resources faculty can use to promote research and information literacy skills in their courses:

  • Library Survival Guide
    A website and tri-fold color brochure with basic information about finding books and articles on a topic, finding a call number, getting materials on reserve, reading a citation, and getting help.
  • Research Process
    A PDF handout showing the research process from defining a research question to writing the paper.

  • World of Information
    A PDF handout defining primary, secondary, and reference sources and examples of each.

  • How to Find....
    A series of guides for finding particular types of information such as  biographies, book reviews, editorials, film reviews and criticism, and more.

  • Subject and Course Guides
    A series of research guides for subjects and particular courses. If you would like a guide for your course, contact your library liaison.
  • Evaluating Sources
    A checklist of questions to ask when evaluating sources and strategies for finding more information about authors, publishers, and academic reputation.

  • Citation Game
    A game to test your students' ability to identify types of sources by their citation and the parts of a citation. Use the pre-set challenges or create one of your own.

  • Eph Survival Guide
    A tutorial created with Academic Resources to cover basics of the Honor Code, incorporating sources into writing, and tips for managing the workload of the semester.
