Studs Terkel, 1912-2008

(Flat Display Case, First Floor, Sawyer Library)

Making a career out of collecting the voice of America for much of the twentieth century, Chicago-based writer Studs Terkel provided a sympathetic ear to the American people, devoting several of his books to their intimate, revealing, first-person narratives... Some of Terkel's interviews were with celebrities, but his most remembered—and many say his best—were with "real people."  Source:  Contemporary Authors Online
